the creative activist
Yulia is an inspiring woman and she is a lot of things. You can literally feel her creative energy, humanity and love for life through the wire. She’s also got a rebel’s streak and comes across almost futuristic, the word progressive comes to mind, but that doesn’t serve her a hundred percent as there’s so much warmth to her. She’s the one you definitely want in your corner, that is for sure. In the end, it might be best if she just introduces herself, leaving out the cool tidbit that she’s based in Brooklyn, NYC:
My name is Yulia Laricheva. I’m a Artist, Maker, Activist neatly wrapped in a Creative Director shell. My business is storytelling. I help brands tell stories focused on women empowerment, diversity, and social impact. I have a Podcast and a Creative Agency called Dream Nation Love. Sometimes I work with ad agencies as a freelancer to help them launch brands and tell stories. I’m an Art Director by trade but usually end up doing the Copywriting as well. I’m really great when it comes to concepts. Making the complex simple.
What’s the one thing that you excel at, that you do better than anyone else?
Having patience. I know some people would laugh at me for saying that. In life you really have to learn to love the journey and the process. Once you reach your destination sometimes it’s not what you expect and sometimes there’s nothing there. So you have to start again. Just be patient and really learn to appreciate the moment and learn to really look around on your journey, notice the every day magic all around you. The journey is the destination.
Another thing is being tenacious. I’m patient and will bend iron with my thoughts.
List the three most important principles you live by
I go by the 4 Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz. They’ve changed my life.
Be Impeccable with Your Word
Speak with integrity.
Don’t Take Anything Personally
Nothing others do is because of you.
Don’t Make Assumptions
Find the courage to ask questions and to express what you really want.
Always Do Your Best
No one ever bats 100. People make mistakes. Be forgiving with others and yourself. Set yourself up for success, ask for help. Help others when they ask you to.
Do you keep hearing the same compliment? What is it?
“Yulia Rocks.” That’s the one I hear across the board. As well as “I love your Kimono.”
Why do people seek you out?
They are interested in telling stories around women empowerment, diversity, social impact. They also usually need help building, promoting, or launching a brand. I’m great at developing concepts and rolling out campaigns.
List three words that describe you, how do people introduce you?
When introduced to clients.
When friends introduce me.
When giving talks and helping people find their passion in life.
What’s the secret sauce you add to your working life?
Gratitude. I know his sounds ridiculous but if you’re having an awful day, take a moment to list 5 things you are grateful for. I promise you’ll feel better. It’s a great way to start the day as well.
What makes your heart beat faster? What gives you energy?
Love. Love for my craft, love for my loved ones, love for myself, love for the moment. Just really trying to focus my energy in life so I can live in love. In love with my actions, my words, who I am as a person, my work, my friends, my choices. It makes my heart beat faster to spend my life speaking up for people who don’t have a voice. Amplifying love in the world and making the world better for every passenger on Spaceship Earth.
